Every writer’s path is unique. This is mine.
Embarking on a writing journey means stepping into a world where your thoughts transform into stories, ideas evolve into compelling narratives, and your voice finds its rhythm. But here’s the truth: I never thought of myself as a writer.
Not once.
I believed writers were people who loved every book on every shelf. I thought they attended prestigious art schools. I assumed they were flawless with grammar, punctuation, and structure. I believed being a writer required some official stamp of approval.
I was wrong.
And in this case, being wrong was one of the best things that ever happened to me.
People often ask, “When did you know you wanted to write? And why fairies?”
The answer takes me back to 2017.
I was walking my dog, Rocco, on a clear, beautiful night. The moon was full, huge, glowing, it felt magical! I was completely caught up in its beauty. Rocco noticed me staring at the sky and paused to look at me with the most confused expression, as if to say, “What exactly are we looking at?” It was adorable.
And in that moment, a thought flew into my mind: This is the perfect night for fairies. That was it. That was the spark!
Did I go home and immediately start writing?
Nope.
Did I begin the next day?
Still no.
I talked about it. I imagined it. I visualized Mount Fairet and the fairies who lived there. I built the world in my mind, but I didn’t take action.
Years passed.
Why? Because I believed writing required a lot of money. I thought I needed publishers, agents, illustrators, and permission. I assumed I had to wait until everything was “right.”
But in 2023, I got tired of thinking about it.
So I started.
And something beautiful happened.
The words flowed like the wind. It felt natural. It felt fun. It felt like something that had been waiting patiently inside me for years. I didn’t force it, it simply poured out.
I wrote my first book in a single day. I was committed. (granted, it was 26 pages including illustrations)
Then I wrote another.
And another.
And another.
Somewhere between doubt and determination, I discovered something powerful:
Being creative is a gift. And it’s not reserved for a chosen few.
I truly believe everyone has creativity within them. Sometimes it’s buried under fear. Sometimes it’s covered by comparison. Sometimes it’s waiting for the “perfect moment.”
But it’s there.
Your creative gift doesn’t require perfection.
It doesn’t require a prestigious degree.
It doesn’t require permission.
It only requires you to begin.
If you’ve been holding onto an idea, whether it’s a story, a business, a song, or a dream, maybe this is your full moon moment.
Start before you feel ready.
Start before you feel qualified.
Start before you have it all figured out.
You might just surprise yourself.
And who knows?
You might discover that the fairies were waiting for you all along.
